YORK City supporters are being asked to donate £1 each towards the Martin House Hospice Good Night’s Sleep Appeal at the club’s New Year’s Day home match with Morecambe.

Fans at the game can donate money at all 13 of the home turnstiles for the charity, which aims to provide 40 families in North Yorkshire with five nights’ support and respite care in the hospice.

City chairman Jason McGill has also promised to match the sum raised on the day to double the club’s donation.

A total of £43,000 has already been reached towards the September target of £120,000 and it is hoped the Minstermen can help the appeal pass the £50,000 mark to celebrate the start of 2014.

On his pledge, McGill said: “We hope fans will get behind this really special appeal, which is specifically helping families in North Yorkshire who have children with life-limiting illnesses.

“The Good Night’s Sleep Appeal has really touched me and I want to personally donate a sum which matches the funds we raise at the game on New Year’s Day.

“Hopefully, we can play our part in helping Martin House Hospice provide much-needed rest and support to these special families who are facing such difficult circumstances.”
