PICKERING’S Paul Davison missed out on a place in the latter stages of snooker’s Haikou World Open after a 5-1 qualifying defeat to Mike Dunn.
World number 74 Davison went 3-0 down in the round one match at Barnsley’s Metrodome before a break of 78 got him on the board in the fourth frame.
However, Dunn, whose fast start included breaks of 50 and 58, won a close fifth frame before sealing his place in the last 64 of the ranking event in Hainan, China, in March.
Davison went into yesterday’s match in good form, having beaten world number 38 Jamie Jones in the qualifying round of the German Masters on Wednesday night.
The final stages of that tournament will be held at the Tempodrom in Berlin between January 29 and February 2.
