CONEYSTHORPE ‘A’ and York RI ‘A’ are neck-and-neck at the top of division one of the York & District Table Tennis League, writes John Farmery.

The two rivals are level on 83 points, although Coneysthorpe ‘A’ have a game in hand on their title rivals.

Both had convincing wins in their latest fixtures, Coneysthorpe ‘A’ defeating Holgate WMC ‘A’ 9-1 thanks to three wins each for Martin Lowe and Ashley Hodgson, while York RI ‘A’ won 8-2 against Bootham ‘A’, for whom Filip Wojtkowiak and Mick Wilcockson posted maximums.

At the foot of the table, Bootham ‘A’ defeated York RI ‘C’ 7-3 thanks to three wins from Jon Wooldridge.

Shepherds ‘A’ have a clear lead at the top of division two after a 10-0 thrashing of Tramways WMC and a 6-4 win over York RI ‘D’. Andy Fletcher was on top form, winning all six of his singles matches.

Holgate WMC ‘B’ are 19 points behind the leaders but have three games in hand.

University ‘B’ have taken over top spot in division three after big wins against Bootham ‘F’ (9-1) and Shepherds ‘E’ (10-0).

Second-placed Bootham ‘E’ lost for the first time this season, 6-4 against Bootham ‘F’.

Richard Collyer and Matt Ayres won two each for the victors, while Ray Mitchell won two for the losers.

Thornton-le-Clay kept up their promotion challenge with a 10-0 whitewash of Burnholme ‘A’.

York RI ‘H’ have taken a five-point lead at the top of division four after a 9-1 thrashing of Crescent WMC ‘F’.

Paul Greenwood and John Mothersill won their singles matches for the railwaymen.

A depleted Burnholme ‘B’ suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 6-4 to Crescent WMC ‘G’, for whom Steve Taylor won both of his singles matches.

Bottom team Wigginton & Haxby narrowly lost to Bootham ‘G’ by 6-4.
