SELBY Town’s promotion credentials in Northern Counties East League division one will come under severe scrutiny tomorrow when they host big-spending Shaw Lane Aquaforce – but, says boss Ian Dring, so too will the title hopes of the visitors.

Shaw Lane are clear at the top along with Cleethorpes Town and put 11 goals past lowly Louth Town on Tuesday night.

The Robins, though, have claimed 34 points out of a possible 42 since crashing 4-0 in the reverse fixture in September, to get onto the fringes of the top three.

They have had the last ten days off since losing at Conference North outfit Guiseley in the West Riding County Cup but Dring has been busy, re-signing attacking midfielder Steve Lyon, son of former boss Bob, from Pontefract Collieries as well as defender Simon Sturdy following his departure from Pickering, with whom he was a player-coach under axed boss Jimmy Reid.

And, with former Hull City and Doncaster Rovers forward Jason Price back after being rested for the Guiseley game, Dring, despite being without Danny Gray due to a one-match ban for picking up five bookings, is confident his charges can trouble their guests.

“It’s a massive game for us,” said Dring, who doesn’t expect to arrive at Flaxley Road until kick off due to work commitments, so will leave assistant Chris Kamara in charge pre-match.

“But I’m not worried about Shaw Lane. If we play like we can it will be a cracking game and it will be a good test for them as well as us.

“They beat us 4-0 away but we had a scratch side out that night. I hope they come thinking it will be easy as it’ll be a shock for them.”

Knaresborough, who on current form cannot be discounted from the division one promotion race either, will look to make it seven games unbeaten when they host Hall Road Rangers.
