Leeman United opened up a four-point gap at the top of division two in the Ian’s Cars of Barlby Sunday Morning League after thumping Beeswing 9-1.

Mike McKenzie top-scored with a hat-trick, with Liam Stilgoe and Danny Coulson bagging a brace each. Arran Reid and James Barrett completed the scoring.

Beeswing’s consolation goal was hit by Callum McKenzie, who netted for the ninth game on the trot.

Britannia Tadcaster move to within three points of division three leaders Marcia Grey after beating visitors Bishopthorpe United 5-0.

Adam Field struck twice to give the home side a 2-0 half-time lead. Britannia continued to dominate in the second period and increased their lead when Josh Tinker rifled home from 35 yards, before Scott Nicholas hit a brace.

Tadcaster Magnets stayed in contention after winning 2-1 at Brayton.

The first corner of the game saw the visitors take the lead with a goal from Sam O’Brian but Brayton hit back within minutes when a Rob Guest cross was volleyed home by Joshua Knowles.

But just three minutes later Magnets scored what proved the match-winner when a long clearance from ’keeper Jason Lowe was headed in by Sam Farthing.

NUR went top of division four after seeing off visitors New Earswick 3-2. NUR’s James O’Donnell opened the scoring when he lobbed the ’keeper from 40 yards before James Burnitt made it 2-0.

The visitors hit back with goals from Daniel Hunter and Neil Richardson but O’Donnell’s second sealed the points.

Second division side Huntington Rovers provided the major upset in the third round of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby League Cup when they saw off first division Severus 6-3.

Rovers were 3-0 up after only 20 minutes with a brace from Chris Dixon and a John Patrick strike.

Jake Moyse retrieved a goal for Severus with a penalty, but Rovers hit back when Dixon struck his third goal and Lee Bunce scored to make it 5-1 at the break.

Severus staged a mini-revival when Moyse and Lee Powell found the net, but Rovers made sure of the result when a shot from Chris Dyson rebounded off a post and struck a Severus defender to roll into the net.

First division Station breezed into the fourth round when they beat hosts York Medics 6-0.

Mike Braithwaite opened the scoring before Gary Collier was on target to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Station’s dominance continued when Luke Durham beat three defenders before smashing the ball in. Braithwaite and Collier both struck again and substitute Paul Fenton hit the sixth.

In a same-name tie, Marcia Grey mauled hosts Marcia Bishopthorpe 7-1. Nick McBride (2) and full-back Joe Richardson, the latter crashing an unstoppable shot home from 20 yards, put the visitors in command before a lone reply from Chris Long shortly into the second half.

But that was a mere blip as Phil Jones and Tommy Medd each nabbed two-goal hauls.

A brace from Chris Harkin and a Paul Tanton strike saw Albion Vaults beat derby rivals Barlby 2-1.

York RI advanced after a 4-3 win over Snaith with a brace from Gary Rylance, a Sean Stockdale strike and an own goal.

 

King conquest of Centurion

King William of York are through to the third round of the North Riding County Sunday Cup after beating The Centurion 2-1.

King William started strongly but missed chances and were punished when Centurion scored to lead 1-0 at the break.

The second period saw King William continue to press and they were rewarded on the hour when Danny Leach scored from four yards after winning a header and then striking home the rebound.

King William continued to dominate and made sure of a tie against North Ormesby Cons Club on January 12 when Mitchell Carter cut in from the right and curled a 20-yard shot past the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Hounds booked their place in the semi-finals of the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup with a 5-2 win over York Nomads Society.

The home side went in at the break 3-1 up thanks to goals from Chris Jackson and Luke Pearce (2).

Harry Brigham and Danny Rodwell netted in the second period.
