York Ladies rugby league team moved up to third in the WARLA Winter League after a 16-12 victory at Huddersfield.
The lead swapped hands throughout before hooker Sam Boyes powered over for the decisive try with eight minutes remaining.
York had taken a 4-0 lead after quick ball down the line found space for full-back Ashleigh Hyde to race clear from half-way.
Huddersfield hit back early in the second half with a converted try but York responded five minutes later as prop Carly Hilton scooted from a play-the-ball having spotted a gap. Boyes added the conversion.
Huddersfield regained the lead again with a converted try, but Boyes had the final say, capping her try with the conversion.
York’s player of the match was Hilton, while the referee’s player of the match was Boyes. They were backed up well by stand-off Mary Tiplady and half-back partner Katie Langan.
York look to finish 2013 on a high when they take on Whitworth Ladies at New Earswick on Sunday (2pm).
