A SLIP by goalkeeper Chloe Precious saw shot-shy York City Ladies lose 1-0 at Scunthorpe & Bottesford.

The North East Regional Women’s League’s bottom side won their first game of the season, having lost their opening 11, against title hopefuls York, who have now failed to net in their last three matches.

In the first half, the visitors could not capitalise on crosses from Jazz Whitwell and Alicia Smith.

Nikki Brown also did well to win possession during a very strong performance in which she kept play simple but both teams went in at the interval goalless.

The second half heralded better scoring opportunities for the visitors although midfielder Sara Renfrew failed to hit the target.

Whitwell, seeing more of the ball in the second period, also used her pace and quick feet to get beyond the Scunthorpe defenders but lacked an end product.

York suffered a blow on 80 minutes when Scunthorpe stole the points from their only chance of the half.

Precious lost her footing at a goal kick and set up a Scunthorpe striker who needed just one touch to notch past the downed Precious.

Third-placed York next go to Guiseley, who only trail them on goal difference.
