NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC picked up their second victory of the Pennine League Championship season as they beat Eastmoor Dragons 28-8.

The home side took the lead at White Rose Avenue when winger Dean Smith collected half-back Liam Gargan’s kick to the corner.

Eastmoor equalised with an unconverted try, but the All Blacks regained the lead five minutes before the break.

Substitute prop Jack Stearman, the club’s player-coach, powered over and stand-off Tom Holmes converted for a 10-4 advantage at the break.

Eastmoor narrowed the gap with a try, but the home side then took control, stretching their lead when Holmes crossed and converted midway through the half.

Stearman then powered over for his second try and Holmes again added the extras.

The All Blacks sealed their victory when prop Dan Atkinson finished, with Holmes converting.

New Earswick’s man of the match was Gargan and he was well backed up by full-back Jack Hodgson and centre Adam Kirby.

The triumph moved the All Blacks up to seventh in the league.

Selby Warriors ‘A’ were 24-20 victors at Moorends Thorne Marauders ‘A’ in division seven.

Danny Milton got the first of his two tries to put Selby on the way but it didn’t last long as the home team, who are near the top of the table, came back and scored.

Excelling for Selby in the first half were new signing Lee Merick and forwards Paul Scott and Paul Berriman.

Bart Thomsen started to tear into the home side and went over followed by the try of the game from Paul Scott after the ball passed through several pairs of hands.

At 18-6 up Selby took their foot off the gas and Moorends rallied with a brace of tries.

With the game finely poised half-back Milton scored what proved the winning try but not before Moorends got another.

With the line begging and no defenders anywhere near him, captain Berriman dropped the ball over the line.

The Warriors’ first team game at home to Dodworth was called off after the visitors folded after 35 years. Their results will be expunged.
