Mark Beevers celebrates quad bike championship success

York Press: It’s all go for Mark Beevers It’s all go for Mark Beevers

VETERAN East Yorkshire rider Mark Beevers is celebrating back-to-back British Supermoto 450 Quad Championship wins.

At the age of 46, Beevers was the oldest quad bike rider in the championship by 25 years, but 12 race wins over the course of the campaign helped him retain the crown.

Beevers, who is based near Elvington, now has his sights set on a hat-trick of British titles – and a quad biking world record.

“It’s been an exciting season,” he said. “I got an early lead, with lots of first places, and that helped me towards the end of the season.

“To win it twice shows that the first one wasn’t a fluke. I’m now going to be trying to win it three times in a row.

“I’m also building a bike to have a go at some world records. I want to do the fastest wheelie on a quad, and the fastest nought to 60 miles per hour and nought to 100.”

Beevers started the Supermoto season at Three Sisters in Wigan, claiming two first places and a second.

That solid start was backed up with a hat-trick of wins at the Rednal Raceway, then a first, second and third at Finmere Showground, despite puncture problems.

Round four at Blyton Park was a washout for Beevers due to a fault on the bike but, with each rider able to drop a round from their total points score, there was no major damage to his title prospects.

With a new bike on parade at Rowrah for round five, Beevers got back on track with a trio of first place finishes.

The momentum continued with two seconds and a first as the series returned to Three Sisters, before three runner-up placings at Teesside Autodrome.

The championship race was close heading to Blyton for round eight, but Beevers took advantage of engine problems for his chief rival to record two firsts and a second.

That meant he merely had to finish in the final round at Three Sisters.

Said Beevers: “Crossing the line was a great feeling but also a great relief. All the rivalry was over and I could relax and enjoy the moment.”

Beevers is backed by Millers Classic & Performance Oils, and Yorksbike Ltd.
