PICKERING Town boss Mitch Cook has warned his revitalised troops not to expect another goal avalanche tomorrow – or risk a painful shock.

The Pikes hammered Lincoln Moorlands 11-0 in the Northern Counties East League premier division last Saturday and this weekend visit another struggling outfit in Winterton Rangers.

Cook has earmarked three more points but stresses his players must first work for their rewards.

“We’ve had a chat with the lads about this,” he said. “There’s always a danger if you approach a game in that manner – thinking you’ll win easily – then you’re likely to come unstuck.

“We have to approach it in the same way as we did against Lincoln. Even in the 85th, 86th minute we were still chasing after the ball.

“That’s the attitude we need to have and if we get that we can get the same result, if not the same scoreline – those 11-0 scorelines don’t happen often.”

Tony Hackworth will be beside Cook on the sidelines tomorrow after being handed a one-man ban for his red card against former club Scarborough in the North Riding Senior Cup. Hackworth, Cook’s player/assistant-coach, had been sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity in that 2-0 defeat. Ged Dalton, fit again after an ankle problem, is likely to be a straight swap.

Leaders Tadcaster Albion host Heanor Town looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to 23 games.

Paul Marshall’s men won 3-1 in the reverse fixture five games into their terrific ongoing sequence which has moved them eight points clear at the top – and left Marshall with his present lengthy beard, the boss having pledged not to shave until they lose.

Meanwhile, Selby Town can power into fourth place in the first division if they beat hosts Eccleshill and other results tomorrow prove favourable.

The clash pits fifth against the sixth-placed Robins, who have won five and lost just one of their last six league outings.

But to improve that record Ian Dring’s men will have to shake off a tough midweek tussle in which they missed out on a place in the West Riding County Cup semi-finals due to a 2-1 defeat at Guiseley.

The hosts took the lead within three minutes through Ryan Williams. However, with Josh O’Neill and Tomas Halvorsen excelling in midfield, Selby deservedly levelled just after the hour through a fine far-post finish from Regan Kelly.

The Robins’ dominance was shattered, though, by a decisive strike from Guiseley when Jake Lawlor pounced from close range.

The deficit could have been wider but for a superb penalty save from Selby’s Lee Kelsey.

Ninth-placed Knaresborough Town could find their biggest opponent being complacency tomorrow when they host anchor club Louth Town, who have lost their last six matches and all eight away from home this term.
