In-form Leeds United goal ace Ross McCormack eyes monthly gong

IN-FORM Leeds United are chasing a sixth straight Elland Road win tomorrow against Watford buoyed by a double Sky Bet Championship lift.
The seventh-placed Whites were 2-0 winners at home to Wigan on Wednesday thanks to two goals from prolific striker Ross McCormack.
That was followed by the announcement that McCormack, on a run of eight goals in five matches, had been shortlisted for the Championship player of the month award for November.
United manager Brian McDermott is in the running for the manager of the month gong after his side lost only once in November.
The Leeds manager is up against Bolton’s Dougie Freedman, Brighton’s Oscar Garcia and Nigel Pearson, of Leicester.
McCormack’s rivals are Leicester’s Lloyd Dyer, Tomasz Kuszczak, of Brighton, and Derby’s Andre Wisdom.
Against Wigan, McCormack bundled home his 14th goal of the season in the 15th minute and then saw his 77th-minute free-kick evade everybody in the penalty area before bouncing inside the far post.
McDermott felt leading scorer McCormack and goalkeeper Paddy Kenny made the difference.
“Paddy made a good save at 1-0 and Ross McCormack obviously, I thought he was terrific, he led the line very well and we were solid,” McDermott said.
“We’re trying to build a winning mentality, we’ve played better this season, but we’re learning how to win together.”
Leeds teenager Alex Mowatt has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with the club.
The 18-year-old midfielder said: “I’m really pleased to have signed.”
