williamhill.com UK Championship: day ten live blog

This live event has finished

11:56pm

Well, what a day. Join us again tomorrow afternoon where we will see the first semi-final between Stuart Bingham and Neil Robertson.

11:55pm

That's it! It's all over. Mark Selby is in the semi-finals of the UK Championship. The man just never, ever, gives up.

11:54pm

Barry leaves the green in the jaws and that surely is it.

11:53pm

Did Barry play safe off the free ball? If he didn't he missed a pot on the pink by a mile. Barry still needs a snooker. Selby jaws the green, though. What tension!

11:50pm

Selby has missed it. By a fraction. And Barry has a free ball! He can win.

11:49pm

And another brilliant snooker. This time Selby is stuck behind the pink. This really is fantastic stuff.

11:48pm

11:48pm

Barry has laid another snooker. Selby is equal to it. Amazing swerve.

11:45pm

11:43pm

11:43pm

Selby flukes the yellow. Barry needs two snookers now.

11:41pm

11:40pm

Selby swerves the length of the table and hits it.

11:39pm

Hawkins pots the last red, takes the black, and almost gets the snooker on yellow behind the green.

11:35pm

He's got out of it again. Magnificent!

11:34pm

A lucky flick on the brown, though, and Selby is tight in behind the yellow and in all sorts of trouble.

11:34pm

Selby, the escapologist, finds a route to the red. This is gripping.

11:33pm

And he's got a brilliant one.

11:33pm

He can only take blue. He is going to require a snooker.

11:32pm

Remember, though, Barry must take a black and it's tied up at the bottom of the table.

11:31pm

Barry's safety goes wrong and Selby has a thin red to middle. Left it short.

11:30pm

Blue is in and Barry needs every remaining point on the table to tie.

11:29pm

It's there!

11:28pm

Brilliant blue and he's on a red on the bottom cushion.

11:27pm

Barry misses and leaves Selby a red to corner. It's in.

11:26pm

Selby scores the same, leads by 21, and then plays a wonderful safety to leave Hawkins behind the brown.

11:22pm

Hawkins misses on 18.

11:18pm

Attempted safety by Selby hits the blue and Hawkins has a straight red to start. Knocks it in.

11:14pm

Another superb safety from Selby.

11:10pm

Breaks down on 17. He's got 21 points on the board and has left Hawkins a quandary.

11:08pm

Selby doesn't have pink or black at his disposal so this will be hard work.

11:07pm

He misses and Selby's knocks in a thin snick to the corner. He has the first chance.

11:05pm

Cracking safety from Selby. Tucks Hawkins right up behind the brown.

10:59pm

Amazing guts and character from Selby. Gritty break of 77 and it is 5-5. We are going to a decider!

10:38pm

He didn't get it, though. And Selby is now one behind at 5-4.

10:34pm

Careless from Selby. Simple black would have won him the frame. He missed it. Hawkins needs one snooker, but it's there to be gained.

10:19pm

Hawkins about to go 5-3 up. Selby has got a lot of work to do if he is going to remain in the UK Championship.

10:19pm

Hawkins about to go 5-3 up. Selby has got a lot of work to do if he is going to remain in the UK Championship.

10:18pm

Mark Allen has lost 6-2 to Ricky Walden. He said afterwards that his ferrell was moving on his cue and that was affecting him when trying to play with side.

But he added that he hadn't been good enough in the tournament as a whole and, given that, was happy to get into the last eight.

10:04pm

Getting tense now in both games. Selby trails Hawkins 4-3.

9:47pm

Ricky Walden is marching to a place in the last four at the moment. He has hit 96 to lead Mark Allen 5-2.

9:33pm

Mark Allen looks like he might finally have stirred. He hits his highest break of the match to close the gap to 4-2.

Barry Hawkins, meanwhile, has also just taken the sixth frame and he leads Mark Selby 4-2.

Is the defending champion about to exit?

9:17pm

On the other table, Allen led by 40 points but Walden has fashioned a frame winning 65 and is in charge of his match. He leads 4-1.

9:09pm

Good response from Selby - takes the first after the interval and now trails Hawkins 3-2.

8:42pm

And while we are at the break in our two games, why not watch what Stuart Bingham had to say, courtesy of World Snooker, about his 6-2 victory over Stephen Maguire?

8:35pm

3-1 to Hawkins now. He's done it by tying the highest break of the tournament too. Strikes a 142. Across the way, Ricky Walden also leads Mark Allen 3-1.

8:24pm

Hawkins now moves into the lead. Lays a great snooker and pots the free ball, after a Selby miss, on his way to a 2-1 lead.

8:19pm

Walden has turned around. A good 57 has given him a 2-1 lead over Mark Allen.

8:04pm

66 break from Walden on the other table levels that match at 1-1 as well.

8:04pm

Bit more of that please. Good break from the Hawk, Selby needs a snooker and gets it and Barry pots a brilliant pink to take the frame.

The result? It's 1-1.

7:49pm

7:49pm

Well, it's taken 38 minutes, but Mark Allen has finally taken the first frame against Ricky Walden.

7:40pm

7:39pm

We've seen the first frame decided and it is defending champion who is on the board. Selby takes it with a break of 54 and is one up on Barry Hawkins.

Still plenty of mileage in the first frame on the other table, though. Walden leads 55-30 with five reds still on the table.

7:25pm

Neither of the matches have really burst into life yet. The opener in Allen/Walden has turned messy, while Hawkins is about 40 points up on Selby. But it's the latter who is currently at the table.

7:11pm

The evening games are off and running.

6:38pm

Just 20 minutes away from play getting under way in the evening session.

Tonight's two quarter-finals see defending champion Mark Selby face Barry Hawkins, while Mark Allen has a repeat of his 2011 York semi-final with Ricky Walden to contemplate.

6:24pm

4:46pm

And here is Stephen Maguire talking about his defeat to Neil Robertson.

4:38pm

All over in the other match as well. Neil Robertson will play Stuart Bingham in the last four. He has beaten Stephen Maguire 6-2.

4:28pm

Hear from Ronnie O'Sullivan as he talks about his loss to Stuart Bingham.

4:11pm

That's it. The world champion is out. Stuart Bingham has beaten Ronnie O'Sullivan 6-4 in the UK Championship quarter-final.

4:02pm

4:02pm

Bingham nails a nerveless double. Ronnie needs a couple of snookers!

4:00pm

A great snooker from Bingham gives him another chance. Ronnie can only sit in the chair...

3:58pm

He gets to 41 but tries to force a straight black into the left corner. And it stays out.

3:54pm

O'Sullivan's attempt at a long red goes wrong and Bingham has an easy starter 28 points behind. This is his chance!

3:48pm

3:48pm

3:47pm

3:47pm

3:47pm

3:47pm

Robbo wraps up the frame with a clearance of 128. Hard to see anyway back for Maguire now. He is 5-1 behind.

3:43pm

Back comes Ronnie. A ton - 127 - and he now trails 5-4. Bingham still in the box sat, though.

Across the room, Robertson is in command n the sixth frame.

3:33pm

Attempted safety by Ronnie leaves a red over the pocket. Bingham makes the most of it. He now leads O'Sullivan 5-3.

3:30pm

3:29pm

3:29pm

3:29pm

Maguire has got on the board. He trails Robertson 4-1 now.

Bingham, meanwhile, misses on 47. Still looks dangerous when he gets a chance.

3:21pm

Ronnie has bagged another. Helped by a break of 46, he is now just one adrift at 4-3.

3:01pm

And Maguire has a chance in the fifth frame of his match with Robertson. Trailing 4-0, he really needs  to do something here.

3:01pm

Fantastic reply from Ronnie. Clearance of 135. Sensational. Has he just flicked the switch?

He now trails 4-2.

2:51pm

Don't think I've ever seen Bingham play better than this.

He broke down after missing an easy black but, after Ronnie couldn't capitalise, he stroked a magnificent red in with the white tight on the top cushion.

Ronnie is under pressure here. And he is making mistakes. It's 4-1 now.

2:45pm

Horror show for Maguire at the moment. Now 4-0 down to Robertson.

Bingham is back out after the break and he is dominating again at the table. O'Sullivan hadn't done much wrong. He just hasn't had a sniff.

2:29pm

2:29pm

2:28pm

Not looking promising. Robertson in again and looks well set in the 50s.

2:25pm

Robertson 3-0 up in the other match. Maguire desperately needs this last frame before the interval.

2:15pm

Tight fourth frame this and it's really important. Bingham pots final red and he's going to go 3-1 up at the interval.

1:59pm

So Ronnie has got one back and Robertson moves two clear ahead of Maguire.

Thunderous red by Bingham gives him the first chance in the fourth frame.

1:51pm

Break of 59 from Ronnie has put him 77 points up and in command of this third frame.

Robertson looked good to go 2-0 up but a huge kick on 56 when trying to pot a red has given Maguire a slim hope.

1:40pm

Stuart Bingham has come to play this afternoon. Break of 131 in the second and he now has a 2-0 lead over Ronnie. First real test for O'Sullivan in the tournament. Is he up for the fight?

on the other table, Robertson has taken the opener against Maguire.

1:29pm

Couple of chances for both Ronnie and Bingham but, after a missed pink to the middle, it is Stuart that takes the opener.

1:03pm

BBC MC Rob Walker is taking us through the introductions and play is set to get under way at about 1.10pm.

12:37pm

Afternoon everybody.

We are at the business end of the williamhill.com UK Championship - quarter-final day.

What a line up we have got this afternoon. Ronnie O'Sullivan, mesmerising last night against Robert Milkins, bids for a last four berth against Stuart Bingham.

On the other table, the world number one Neil Robertson takes on Stephen Maguire.
