UK Snooker: Judd Trump 'in the zone' during victory over Xiao Guodong
JUDD TRUMP said he was “in the zone” as he produced some phenomenal scoring to beat Xiao Guodong 6-2 at the williamhill.com UK Championship.
The 2011 winner at the Barbican finished off with a break of 133 and hit two other centuries to set up either a repeat of his final with Mark Allen or a match against Michael Holt in the last 16.
Guodong also won both his frames with tons and Trump said: “I think it will have been the highest scoring of the tournament.
“I knew before I went out on the practice table (I would play well). I felt in the zone. It was quite enjoyable playing out there with the crowd. I got up for it. My best game always comes out in front of the bigger crowds at the bigger tournaments.”
Trump had been very critical of the new tournament format following his first round win over Gareth Green but, told of the speculation that the event was likely to be moved away from York, he said: “This venue is fine. It shouldn’t be four tables but there is nothing wrong with York as a place or a venue. But four tables and another four out the back. It isn’t quite right.”
It wasn’t a vintage display from Ronnie O’Sullivan, meanwhile, but he will meet Marcus Campbell in the last 32 today after beating Adam Duffy 6-3.
The Rocket said: “When you’re playing the quality of player of Adam anything can happen. I have managed to negotiate through nice and smoothly and I am looking forward to the next one.”
