YORK Minster Engineering Football League premier division title rivals Riccall and Old Malton St Mary’s matched each other stride for stride with identical 6-1 home victories over struggling opponents.

Riccall United defeated Poppleton United to maintain their 100 per cent record, while Old Malton were victorious over visitors Easingwold Town.

The gap at the top remains four points in Malton’s favour, while Riccall enjoy the luxury of having three games in hand.

Riccall had to ride their luck against Poppleton in the early stages, with the away side creating the better of the chances, but they led 2-0 at half-time.

The home side’s final tally of six goals was made up of a Wayne Brook hat-trick, a Gary Collier double and a Chris Coxon strike.

St Mary’s hit Easingwold for six with a brace from Scott Preston and individual efforts from Danny Fogg, Jon Newton, Dean Nuttall and Darren Dunning.

Third-placed Huntington Rovers led 5-1 at half-time against St Clement’s thanks to Lee Bunce’s four-goal haul and a rare Lee Jackson effort.

Chris Dyson made it 6-1 before Saints staged a revival, Simon Kehoe adding to his first-half effort, before Chris McClusky and Michael Walsh notched to reduce the deficit to two.

However, the tide turned again when St Clement’s were reduced to ten men. Goals from Gary Newton, Jon James and substitute James Edmond made it 9-4 to Rovers.

Wigginton failed to make it a hat-trick of wins over Dringhouses this season, despite leading twice.

Mike Byram fed Josh Luckhurst to give ’Hoppers the lead just before half-time but their former player Lee Fisher levelled after 73 minutes.

Wigginton looked to have taken the points when Dan Zambelli scored with just under ten minutes to go, but Craig McShane’s late strike ensured the match ended in a fair 2-2 draw.

Copmanthorpe made light work of York RI, cruising into a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to a Chris Storey goal and a Danny Leach double. The match ended 4-0 with Sam Bibby getting Copmanthorpe’s fourth and final goal.

Dunnington gained a 3-1 victory against Terrington with efforts from Tom Matthews, Olly Newby and Jimmy Wilmoth.

York St John returned to zero points with a 1-0 win over Aviva.
