TADCASTER Magnets have rejoined the HPH York Vale Cricket League after a two-year absence.

They were elected, along with Ovington III, at the league’s annual general meeting at Fulfordgate WMC.

Tadcaster, who last played in the Vale League in 2011, will play their games on the town’s Manor Field ground where there have been ground improvements and plans for a new scorebox.

As previously reported, champions Ovington, the league’s club of the year, will field a third XI next season, playing at Millthorpe School.

Selby II and Burn II were both re-elected after being forced to seek re-admission because they had conceded more than two games during the 2013 season. Goole Town, who were in a similar position, opted not to seek re-election.

Meanwhile, Vale clubs Hemingbrough, Copmanthorpe II and Woodhouse Grange are seeking election to the York and District Senior League on Monday. Should all three be successful, it will leave the Vale League with 43 clubs next season operating in four divisions.

League subscriptions will be frozen for the third year running. All officers and the management committee were re-elected en bloc.

Grounds officer Steve Relf is considering a bulk purchase scheme for loam, seed and fertilisers which might save clubs a few pounds. Any clubs interested should get phone him on 07939 056061 or email grounds@yorkvale.co.uk

A collection at the recent awards night and dinner at the Royal York Hotel raised £260 for Martin House children’s hospice. The league is to hold one of its cash for runs events for the appeal during the 2014 season.

Matt Durkin, the Vale League’s leading batsman last season, has left Stockton & Hopgrove for Senior League side Woodhouse Grange and is expected to play in their second team.
