At Huntington Road, both rinks won but only after resilience from the hosts.
Barry Johnson’s team had a 7-3 advantage after five but were hit by a six from Dave Stroughair’s side who took control and led 17-8.
But Johnson’s men came back to trail 20-18 going into the last end. York though picked up a single to win 21-18.
Dave Attwood and Paul Dawson’s sides were involved in a tight match which saw singles scored on 16 of the 21. It was Attwood’s rink who prevailed 20-11.
At Thanet Road, Phil Emmerson’s team dropped a three on the first end but by the sixth they led Ralph Tiplady’s side 9-3.
A brace of twos reduced the arrears to two shots before the home side took hold of the game to finish comfortably 29-13.
New Earswick’s only success came from an impressive display by the men led by Brian Gray.
They were ahead from start to finish.
After establishing a slender 10-9 lead against Paul Humphreys’ team, they scored ten shots without reply between the 17th and 20th ends to guarantee an impressive 20-10 victory.
