York City boss braced for Bristol battle – whenever that may be
12:23pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Sport
YORK City will be ready for Bristol Rovers when they meet in the FA Cup first round, declared boss Nigel Worthington.
The Minstermen were handed the lengthy trip to the Memorial Ground on Saturday, November 9 in Sunday’s draw and unfamiliarity will not be a problem for either outfit – with the teams having met in a 3-2 home win for the Pirates in August.
Bristol Rovers have asked York to consider changing the date of the fixture as neighbours Bristol City have been drawn to play Dagenham at Ashton Gate on the same day and negotiations were continuing last night.
Worthington said: “The tie is there and the unfortunate thing is the long journey and we have had quite a few of those recently.
“It’s the FA Cup, it’s a special trophy, and we have got to go there and put a performance on.
“There are a couple of League games prior to that. We will focus on them first and then we can really harness into them. We know enough about them. We have played them already and we will be ready.”
The tie will bring York together with former boss John Ward and Worthington added: “John is a good man. He has been around the block a few times so we know each other very, very well.”
