Brian Ellison, fresh from seeing his much-improved Top Notch Tonto blaze to second in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes after being boldly supplemented into the £1 million race for £70,000, heads to Doncaster this afternoon with much smaller fish to fry.

The Norton trainer is represented by Ty Gwr, who should be one step ahead of the handicapper after his runaway victory at Leicester recently.

The four-year-old won by seven lengths on his latest start and has been raised a hefty 12lb. But today he is able to run off his old mark, plus a 6lb penalty.

His target is the Amateur Jockeys’ Association Amateur Riders’ Handicap and Ellison has swiftly booked the services of Simon Walker, who is probably the best and most successful pilot on the Flat amateur circuit. Ty Gwr has very strong claims.

Act Of Charity may prove the answer to the opening Racing Post Weekender Nursery.

Trained at Newmarket by Marco Botti, the colt has improved for each of his outings and made it third time lucky at Pontefract last time when scoring in decisive style. He does not look overburdened off an opening rating of 83 and is worthy of respect.

In the Initiatec CCTV Maiden Stakes, Wannabe Yours merits close attention, despite Bon Voyage coming into this race after finishing in the frame in a brace of valuable sales races at Newmarket and earning himself a mark of 89.

By contrast, Wannabe Yours has had just one outing and, although too green to do himself full justice, he shaped with plenty of promise to finish sixth in a Newmarket maiden three weeks ago. It will be a surprise if he can not do a deal better here and he is awarded the nap vote.

The Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager Handicap over six furlongs looks wide open and Royal Rock looks to have as good a chance as any and better than most. Although not at his best last time out, he had previously scored at Yarmouth under Ted Durcan, who rides again.

In the Doncaster Mini Handicap, Mister Impatience should not be overlooked.

A good second over a mile and a half at Goodwood two starts back, Mark Johnston’s charge was tapped for speed over ten furlongs at Salisbury last time. He steps up to an extended one and three-quarter miles here and is fancied to relish the longer distance.

At Newbury, Dutch S is an interesting runner in the Sir Gerald Whent Memorial Nursery Handicap.

Clive Cox’s filly made a winning debut at Haydock four weeks ago when getting home narrowly in maiden company. The form may not amount to a great deal, but that is reflected in her opening handicap mark of 76. She could go well.

Julia Fielden has her horses in good heart and No Such Number (4.40) could be another winner for the Newmarket trainer, while Blessington (5.10) made a promising comeback at Ascot three weeks ago after being off more than year. He can go one better for John Gosden.
