Ticket sales on the rise for York's UK Snooker Championship
YORK continues to go snooker loopy for the williamhill.com UK Championship.
Organisers World Snooker have revealed that ticket sales are slightly up on this time last year as the countdown continues to the start of the event at York Barbican on November 26.
Almost 4,000 seats have been snapped up by city snooker fans, with only a few remaining for the final, which will be staged on December 8.
The UK Championship is second only to the World Championship in pre-eminence and returned to York in 2011.
This year, all 128 tour players will play at the Barbican in an expanded tournament.
Ivan Hirschowitz, World Snooker spokesman, said: “We’re really pleased to see tickets selling so well and clearly the snooker fans in the York area still have a great appetite to see the sport live.
“The final is nearly sold out but there are still some seats available so if you book fast you can see the conclusion to this fantastic occasion.
“The tournament is a few days longer this year with all 128 players at the venue and it’s going to be fascinating to see some up-and-coming rookies take on the big boys.”
Students can take advantage of a special ticket deal to watch the action. On Tuesday, December 3, student tickets cost £5 all day.
Bookers need to quote ‘Student Tuesday’ when buying tickets. For more information, and to book, log on to www.worldsnooker.com or telephone the Barbican booking office on 0844 854 2757.
