Trevor Day to play with Tony O’Shea at YDP Pro-am Grand Finals
9:49am Thursday 3rd October 2013 in Sport
YORK’S Trevor Day will play alongside three-time World Championship finalist Tony O’Shea in the YDP Pro-am Grand Finals night at Huntington WMC on Wednesday.
Day has been paired with 2009, 2012 and 2013 Lakeside runner-up O’Shea, nicknamed “Silverback,” in a competition that will also see seven other top BDO players team up with regional amateur qualifiers for a great evening of darts, starting at 7pm. Another Minsterman, Ian Atkins, will partner two-time World Championship semi-finalist Darryl Fitton, while current BDO world number one Stephen Bunting has been drawn with Bridlington’s Steve Rice.
Three more York players Steve Wade, Quentin McMaster and Shaun Day have been assigned to pro trio Garry Robson, Martin Atkins and Glen Durrant respectively, with Robbie Green the team-mate of Thorpe Willoughby’s Stuart Limbert and James Wilson joining forces with Colin Hendry, from Ferrybridge.
The quarter-final draw is as follows: Robson/Wade v M Atkins/McMaster; Fitton/I Atkins v Bunting/Rice; Wilson/Hendry v Durrant/S Day; Green/Limbert v O’Shea/T Day.
Games will be played on a first-to-three-points basis with the amateurs playing the professionals, followed by a pairs match and, then, if needed, an amateur v amateur game before a pro v pro decider.
Following the Pro-am, the professionals will then battle it out head to head in the Pro-challenge with the draw for that tournament as follows: Durrant v Robson; O’Shea v Atkins; Wilson v Green; Fitton v Bunting.
Tickets for the evening cost £7.50 and are still available from Huntington WMC or by calling Neil Hart on 07921 128063.
Red Dragon Darts, meanwhile, have extended their sponsorship of York Darts Promotions for a third year.
It means the Winmau Blade 4 dartboard will be used in YDP events with Red Dragon head of marketing Simon Hall adding: “We are proud to be associated with all of York Darts Promotions’ events and I have not met many people as passionate about darts.”
