Simon Dyson hails Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
10:30am Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sport
YORK’S ace of clubs Simon Dyson today started the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship declaring it his favourite tournament.
Dyson’s salute to the $5million event stems not solely from his victory in it four years ago, but also in the unique nature of the championship in which top pros compete alongside celebrities from show-business and sport.
The Alfred Dunhill also features play on three of Scotland’s most famed courses – St Andrews, Kingbarns, and Carnoustie – before finishing back at St Andrews on Sunday.
Said the world 153: “It is my favourite tournament of the year. I just love it. Three amazing courses and links golf – it doesn’t get much better than that.
“The format is totally different and something we only do once a year, so that is probably why everyone enjoys the week so much. We play the same way for about 30 weeks a year, so when you get the chance to do something different it is just great fun.”
Dyson opened his bid today at Kingsbarns alongside Italian rookie Matteo Delpodio before partnering Chris Wood at St Andrews tomorrow and Robert Rock at Carnoustie on Saturday before hopefully being in the top 60 to regroup at St Andrews.
