New Earswick All-Blacks revel in 46-0 thriller
10:37am Tuesday 24th September 2013 in Sport
New Earswick All Blacks ARLFC picked up their first Pennine League Championship win of the season.
A solid all-round display provided the bedrock for a 46-0 mauling of Moorends Thorne Marauders.
All Blacks opened the scoring after eight minutes when loose forward Steve Doswell crossed after the visitors’ defence failed to claim a high bomb. Full-back Tom Holmes converted.
A well-timed pass from hooker Jack Carling put second rower Dean Layton through the gap to score, Holmes again obliging.
And the lead was stretched once winger Will Leatt broke through the line and raced 50 metres to score on his debut.
Leatt crossed for his second two minutes later when Layton broke the line. Holmes was again successful with the boot.
By half-time the hosts were effectively out of sight at 30-0 up, Doswell taking advantage of a break by half-back and man of the match Liam Gargan.
The highlight of the second half was a hat-trick of tries from centre Adam Kirby – the first after good work by winger Pete Ritchie, the second fastening on to his own chip and chase, and the third when he burst through.
Besides Gargan, second rowers Layton and Bobby Smith starred.
