HEWORTH ‘A’ ARLFC wrapped up their Yorkshire Men’s League division two campaign in defeat but with a determined display against top dogs Holderness.
The black and whites may have lost 32-16 but they pushed the champions all the way.
The visitors took the lead with a try from star man John McCloud, but Heworth’s Rich Rogers stretched over the line on 17 minutes. Gary Watkinson kicked the extras to put Heworth ahead.
However, the Hull outfit struck back quickly with tries for Lewis McConnell, Lewis Suddaby and a second for McCloud, bolstered by goals from Adam Dent and Suddaby.
On the stroke of half-time Heworth countered when Adam Caddie threw out a pass to put winger Lewis Worthington over in the corner for a 20-10 interval deficit.
Holderness had the better of the second half and notched further tries from Mark Taylor and John Molloy, both converted by George Grassby.
Heworth winger Worthington showed solid determination to bag his second try which Watkinson converted with an excellent kick from near the touchline.
Caddie, Worthington, Josh Poulter and Jack Hodgson excelled for Heworth, with McCloud and Grassby the star men for the champions.
