10:00am Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Sport
FIVE Lions captain Michelle Britton closed 104 and together with wins from Lynn Thompson and Dawn Exton enabled them to enter the pairs on level terms at York St John’s Ladies Darts League division one opponents Tramways.
Karen Alton, Jo Hodges and Carole Layne scored for Tramways and Layne and Ruth Norman edged the club side in front.
Britton and Jill Reed set up a decider which saw Hodges combine with Kerry Goodall to snatch a 5-4 result to earn their bonus points. Lions loss allowed Cueball ‘B’ to put space between the two top teams.
Bev Harton and Sue Turpin hit the tons for the snooker club side who were prevented from a full house in the singles by Acomb’s Rose Gray.
The club side added two pairs points to their tally for a 7-2 win.
Marcia’s match went the same way as Cueball ‘A’ ace Sue Smith denied Marcia a full house in the singles.
Clair Cooper and mother Carol Perrett, then Babs Harrison and Becky Thompson, won their pairs in 26 and 25 darts to enhance Marcia’s winning margin. Shelagh Kenny hit four ton-plus scores for the visitors and their captain Faye Hawksby chipped in with two tons.
Sandra Bruce closed 100 treble and double 20 for a 23-dart pairs leg with Magnet colleague Sue Tate.
Bruce had gamed in 20 in her earlier singles as they overwhelmed visitors Bootham Conservative Club 6-3.
Burnholme Club’s Caroline Whittaker closed 91 as they were prevented from a full house by Slipper captain Doreen Johnstone.
Division two front-runners Edinburgh again suffered a 6-3 defeat as visitors Jubilee bounced back after Pat Jamieson and Jan Netherwood had put Arms in front.
Sylvia Keenan, Julie Oliver, captain Heather Bulmer and Angela Lancaster enabled Jubilee to enter the pairs with a fine lead. Oliver and Bulmer secured match points and Lancaster and Brenda Dawe added to their tally. Second-placed Severus ‘B’ were gifted seven points as Sun could not raise a team.
Marcia Grey are closing on the top two after they cleared up in the pairs at Leeman to take home a 7-2 victory. Margaret Yeomans, Charlotte Witts were the home team’s only successes.
Vicky McLaren, Kath Powell (124), Julia McKie and Sharon Lyons put Woolpack in the driving seat at Shoulder, whose Jodie Dowson, Sue Gillon narrowed the gap before Pack captain Doreen England and Lyons secured victory.
Linda Stavely and Jenny Williams (134) joined forces to seal victory for Ox by the meanest of margins against visitors Turpin, whose Jo MacPherson top-scored.
Green Trees’ final pairing of Sandra Flintoft and Sonya Love proved to be the match-winners against Burton WMC.
