Billy Hardy’s boot rescues Pocklington RUFC

Pocklington RUFC made it two wins from two starts in North 1 East after beating visitors Old Crossleyans 24-19, but they made really hard work of it.
After Crossleyans got the first points with an early penalty, it was all Pocklington as they opened up the visitors’ defence on half a dozen occasions. But the only success came when fly-half Pete Massie fed centre Joe Holbrough, who rolled over the line.
Penalties were swapped either side of the interval before Pocklington again took the upper hand.
Holbrough went over for his second try, converted by Billy Hardy.
A rare Crossleyans attack gave them another penalty to stay in touch and with 15 minutes to go they notched a converted try to lead 16-15.
Pocklington camped in visiting territory and wing Hardy edged them back into the lead with three nerveless penalties in quick succesion.
Though the visitors also kicked a penalty, Pocklington closed the game down to ensure the win.
