THE season reached a thrilling climax at Wigginton Bowls Club’s championship finals day.
The season finale featured some excellent bowling and a series of tight matches, three of which were decided either on the final end or extra ends.
Jane Stockton won the ladies’ singles title for the fourth consecutive year after a 21-7 victory over Norma Davies.
Stockton then teamed up with Sheila Grimes to win the ladies’ pairs, beating Madge Cooper and Jean Millar 23-21 after an extra end.
The men’s singles was won by John Freeman, a 21-17 victory over Dave Jervis.
Michael Wadsworth claimed the veterans’ singles crown, with a 21-14 victory over Brian Hutton, while the vets’ pairs trophy went to David Moorhouse and Madge Cooper, who edged out Dave Jervis and Michael Grimes 14-13.
Jervis enjoyed better fortune in the final of the men’s pairs as he and Simon Ewing stormed to a 29-10 victory over Brian Hutton and Bill Tomlinson.
In the final of the open pairs, Marjorie Watson and John Parsons were 21-18 winners over Brian Hutton and Ken Magson.
Norma Davies, Doreen Wadsworth and Simon Ewing needed an extra end to win the open triples, beating Jane Stockton, Michael Grimes and Gary Stockton 18-15.
The trophies were presented by president Michael Haseltine, chairman Jean Millar and captain Michael Barlow.
