York Acorn Running Club’s Dowson on mark in race for records

YORK Acorn Running Club’s Mark Dowson won his category at the 31st Lincolnshire Wolds “Tough 10” Mile Road Race organised by the Wolds Veterans Running Club.
A team of 12 York Acorn athletes competed in the race, which is held over a scenic undulating course starting in the village of Rothwell.
Dowson led home the Acorn members, winning the M35 section in a time of one hour three minutes and 12 seconds.
Mike Royce, competing in the male open, clocked 1:16-06, while M60 runner Howard Winzar came home in 1:17-08, Paul Richardson, in the M50 category, finished in 1:19-03, and John Tattersall timed 1:19-35 in the M60.
Gill Boynton, running the F50 section, clocked 1:20-20, Helen Spring, in the female open event, 1:21-45, Michael Tasker was second in the M70 section after coming home in 1:22-34, F45 runner Jane Lawson finished in 1:25-01, and male open entrant Andy Fawcett completed the course in 1:26-37.
A new open age course record was set by winner Aaron Scott, of Notts AC, who clocked 50-38 minutes.
The record was previously held by John Clark, from Grimsby Harriers, in a time of 50-41 – a record which had stood since 1984.
The women’s race record was also broken – for the first time since 1996 – by Philippa Taylor, of Nene Valley Harriers.
She clocked 60-45, beating the previous record held by Jane Colebrook, from Wolds Veterans, who was timed at 61-58.
