9:30am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Sport
FIVE Lions and Cueball ‘B’ – the top two teams in division one of the York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League – were involved in a battle royal.
Cueball prevailed 8-1 given the strength of their high-calibre finishing prowess.
Captain Tracey Farmeary led from the front with three ton-plus scores which was bettered by Lions captain Michelle Britton, who hit a 140 and four 100s.
However, Farmeary’s finishing helped inspire her team and they were only prevented from a total clearance by the pairing of Muriel Britton and Jill Reed.
Tramways continued their run of wins by beating hosts Slipper 7-2. Karen Alton top-scored for the club side with Elaine Metcalfe and Karen Smith winning Slipper’s points.
Bootham Club’s Jackie Clemit and Jane Barnes combined to secure a well-fought win in the final games at Marcia, whose captain Di Moreland was in fine scoring form.
In division two, Jubilee were only denied a full house by Green Tree captain Alison Buckley, while Julia McKie and Kath Powell sealed a close-fought win for Woolpack over visitors Leeman.
Burton WMC captain Linda Embleton (103, 100) and Angie Blackmore were their only successes in the singles as visitors Shoulder took charge.
Sue Gillian, Juile Dowson, Paula Allen and Vicky Sellers starred for Shoulder with Sellers and Hannah Ssmith sealing the triumph.
In a battle of the top two, second placed Severus ‘B’ came out on top against leaders Edinburgh as Anne Meek top-scored to inspire the club side to a 6-3 victory.
Marcia lost out to Ox, whose Alison Walker and Nikki Johnson sealed the win.
