FA Vase exits for Tadcaster Albion and Selby Town
10:45am Monday 9th September 2013 in Sport
Northern Counties East League premier division outfit Albion fell from the first qualifying round as 4-1 losers at Birtley Town, with Richard Batley bagging a last-minute consolation.
It was a jarring thud for NCEL division one side Selby, who succumbed to a second-half blitz in a 5-0 home loss to Formby Town.
The Robins were only trailing by a single goal at half-time, but then conceded three goals in the first 20 minutes after the interval.
However, Knaresborough staged a dramatic comeback to see off Hull visitors Westella Hanson by the odd goal in seven.
They were behind 2-0 and 3-1 but took the tie into extra time with a 90th-minute leveller from Steve Bromley, who had earlier opened the scoring.
Colin Heath struck the extra-time winner ten minutes from the added period. Town’s other marksman was Carl Heard.
Back on the NCEL league front, either side of half-time proved fatal to Pickering Town in their top-tier trek to Long Eaton.
Joe Danby fired the Pikes in front shortly after the half-hour, but they trailed after the hosts filched goals two minutes before the interval and two minutes after it.
Former York City winger Craig Nelthorpe proved Harrogate Town’s ace in the pack with the only goal of the game at AFC Telford in the Conference North.
His second-half strike confirmed Town’s first ever victory at the hosts’ New Bucks Head ground.
Harrogate Railway entertained thoughts of home success in the Evo-Stik division one north when Paul Beesley put them in front after a mere three minutes. But Lancaster City equalised just after half-time and then stole the points with two late goals.
There was woe too for Scarborough Athletic, who, despite goals from Gary Bradshaw and Paul Foot, slipped up 4-2 at Romulus in division one south.
