Press Family Raceday: Hail Funday spectacular
6:50pm Saturday 7th September 2013 in Sport
FUN is the name of the game at The Press Family Racecourse.
Seven thoroughbred races, plus pony racing, an interactive racing zone, bouncy castle and special appearances by children’s TV star Peppa Pig will thrill whether you are a toddler or a pensioner.
There is a special relaxed feel about the only Sunday of York’s year, it naturally attracts a family crowd and under-16s are admitted free.
Grandstand & Paddock and Course Enclosure are combined in a single admission price, allowing racegoers to bring their picnics to enjoy on the bank in the enclosure, take advantage of a special ‘picnic hamper cloakroom’ before crossing over to see the horses close up in the Parade Ring.
On the track, close finishes will abound as the handicaps flash past the line and there’s action to enjoy whether you are a first time racegoer or a purist of the turf, with the Listed Garrowby Stakes (3pm) ensuring the top jockeys and trainers bring some of their best thoroughbreds.
Following the two pony races from 1pm, racing gets under way at 2pm with the Judith Marshall Memorial Stakes over seven furlongs, while the longest race of the afternoon is the two mile Castles UK Educational and Residential Furniture Stakes at 4.05pm.
The natural rhythm of a raceday allows plenty of time to get something to eat and drink as well as providing room for quality time with the family. A wide range of additional entertainments will ensure a happy day out for all ages.
For this special family meeting, County Stand dress code is relaxed so gentlemen are not required to wear jacket, collar and tie.
County Stand entrance costs £24, while combined Grandstand & Paddock and Course Enclosure admission is £12.
