Darts: It’s joyous for Day senior to eclipse junior
12:25pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in Sport
York’s Trevor Day became the penultimate qualifier for the York Darts Promotions Pro-am grand finals beating his son Jason 2-0 in the Knockout 7 final, writes Mat Robinson.
Day senior, who fell behind in the scoring stakes at York’s Punch Bowl, rescued the victory with a 96 finish to take him into the finals.
Both Day senior and junior made their way through the qualifiers in style with the elder finishing on 116 for a 2-0 semi-final victory over Nick Harteveld, whil his son beat Joshua Crow by the same margin despite his opponent scoring 180.
Other competitors such as Steve Simpson, Danny Myerscough and Hartveld all hit 180 in the earlier stages with David Kerr and Dave Banks both finishing their legs in 18 darts.
At the previous Knockout 6, held at Severus Social Club in York, home player Ian Atkins won a very nervy final 2-1 against Robbie Carr.
Both players scored well though finding the doubles became slightly elusive as the pressure increased.
Earlier results were: quarter-finals: Dean Cairns 2, Brian McStravick 1 (18); Alan Beavers 1, Robbie Carr 2 (19); Jason Day 2 (17), Trevor Day 1; Ian Atkin 2, Daz Uttley 1; semi-finals: Cairns 1, Carr 2; Jason Day 0, Atkins 2.
