Pocklington RUFC went out of the Yorkshire Cup in agonising fashion as higher league Bradford & Bingley won 27-25 with the last kick of the match six minutes into stoppage time at Percy Road.

That final kick was a cruel end to a gripping game that saw the lead change hands eight times.

Bradford & Bingley, with former dual code international Henry Paul pulling the strings at centre, were always a threat out wide and scored four tries to Pocklington’s one touchdown.

But Pock matched their National Three North opponents throughout and also had more of the territory, which brought them six penalties from the boot of wing Billy Hardy.

Hardy also added the conversion to Pocklington’s first-half try by back row Matt Davies, while they also had lock Tom Peters held up over the line and had a late touchdown from scrum-half Jack Fletcher disallowed.

Pocklington’s commitment and spirit stood them in good stead and they led 25-24 going into the last play. But they conceded a last-gasp penalty to allow Bradford to steal it.

Malton & Norton lost 64-17 at Driffield in their Yorkshire Cup opener.

Selby made a flying start to their campaign with a 65-0 victory at Moortown in round one of the Yorkshire Shield.

The Swans will host Keighley in round two, with the tie scheduled for Saturday, November 16.

York received a bye in round one and will face Old Brodleians in round two.

Meanwhile, York RI entertained Thirsk in the preliminary round of the Yorkshire Silver Trophy at New Lane and stormed to a 46-0 victory.

With the wind behind them, RI were quickly on the scoreboard and led 36-0 at the interval.

Playing into a strong wind in the second half, the hosts managed two more tries to wrap up the victory.

Andy Brentnall and Tim Lewis both crossed twice for RI and there were also touch downs for Alec Webster, Tom Greaves and Dale Baker.

Chris Morley adding four conversions.

RI will host Richmondshire in round one.
