RICCALL United made it two wins out of two in the York Minster Engineering Football League – and left reigning premier division champions Dunnington still looking for their first point of the campaign. Danny Rodwell grabbed the first goal in Riccall’s 2-0 victory, showing good composure to finish after a mazy run from Chris Coxon.
Riccall’s second came with ten minutes to go when Andrew Best broke clear.
Mark Benton finished off a good team move to give the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead but Nick Moss levelled for Poppleton just after the restart.
Neil Richardson scored the winner with five minutes left on the clock.
The hosts took the lead after nine minutes when Luke Roberts steered in a free-kick from 20 yards, and they doubled their lead early into the second half when Matthew Tiplady slotted in from close range.
Mike MacKenzie reduced the deficit on 55 minutes.
In the League Junior Cup, Fulford booked a ticket into the next round with a 4-1 victory at Wilberfoss.
Danny Penrose gave the away side a 1-0 half-time lead, and went on to complete his hat-trick in the second half. Zeus Cabana hit Fulford’s fourth, with Adam Robertson replying for ’Foss.
For the second time in a week, Stamford Bridge held their opposition to a 1-1 draw at Low Catton Road before dispatching them on penalties, with Sporting Knavesmire the victims this time. Heslington also ousted hosts F1 Racing on spot kicks following a goalless draw.
Cliffe beat Melbourne 8-0 with Ian Beckram, Andrew Addison and Chris Jackson grabbing a brace apiece in addition to goals from Wes Pears and Tom Robinson. James Darlison (4), Craig Allen (2) and Sean Harris were on the score sheet as Cawood hammered Selby Town 7-1.
Huntington lost 7-1 at home to South Milford, for whom Paul Moran scored a hat-trick.
