York City boss Nigel Worthington hails talented teenage trio
YORK City boss Nigel Worthington is pleased with the progress of teenage trio Tom Platt, Tom Allan and Ben Davies.
The three youngsters all started Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with Hartlepool and are expected to retain their place for this weekend’s League Two trip to Bristol Rovers.
As well as 19-year-old Platt and 18-year-old pair Allan and Davies, Worthington also named first-year pro Mike Atkinson on the bench against Hartlepool and has faith in all his young guns.
The Minstermen chief said: “I enjoy the enthusiasm and freshness that youngsters bring, but they’ve got to be able to do the job as well.
“They are not the finished article and I will probably still be saying that at the end of the season because they are learning and will make mistakes but I believe we have a good bunch who will give their all.”
Left-back Davies made his first appearance on Saturday since Worthington agreed to lengthen his one-month loan deal from Preston until January.
On that decision, the City manager added: “Preston can still recall him if they get an injury crisis but I am pleased to extend his loan and I thought he had another very good, solid, dependable game against Hartlepool.”
Meanwhile, City’s game at home to Mansfield Town on Saturday, September 14 has been made all ticket and tickets are on sale now.
Season ticket holders do not need a ticket and can use their booklets in the normal way.
