York Racecourse win squarely in Bryan Smart's sights
BRYAN SMART will go “all guns blazing” to York Racecourse next week when Moviesta bids to land the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival.
The Hambleton handler says it would be a “dream come true” if the three-year-old, the 6-1 third favourite, could claim the five furlong dash on Knavesmire next Friday.
“I want to win,” said Smart, who trains at Sutton Bank. “It’s York for a start. I used to go when I was a kid. My mum and dad used to take me. To have a winner at York, which we have done this year, is just wonderful.
“I just want to go there with all guns blazing. If he won it would be a dream come true.”
Moviesta, who will be ridden by Boroughbridge jockey Paul Mulrennan, won the Group 2 King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood earlier this month and has also tasted victory at York – at the Dante Festival in May – before being edged out by Body And Soul in the Charity Sprint Trophy the following month.
“He likes York,” Smart added. “We are very happy with him and that’s a bonus.
“It doesn’t suit every horse. It’s the make up of the track. It’s a long walk over and you are walking in to a bit of an amphitheatre.
“We have taken horses there that we think will handle it and they haven’t. You walk across with them and you can hear the throng as you get closer to the racecourse.
“But he seems to handle it and it’s great that we are going there with a squeak and especially because he is trained in Yorkshire as well.”
