Wolds Gliding Club to host national two-seater competition
11:07am Thursday 15th August 2013 in Sport
THE Wolds Gliding Club are gearing up to host the 28th national two-seater competition at Pocklington airfield this weekend, writes Jack Amor.
Pilots will fly around fixed points in the sky and marks are awarded for the fastest and most efficient gliding in the competition which starts on Sunday and runs until Sunday, August 25.
Patricia Ridger, competition director, said: “The number of entries we have is a little down due to the bad weather the competition has suffered in recent years. But we’re hoping the great summer keeps going a bit longer and gives us a fantastic week of gliding.”
The event will opened by Coun Anne Cox, the mayor of Pocklington.
A spokesman for the gliding club said: “Two-seater gliders give the opportunity for experienced pilots to pass on their skills to others and hopefully develop champion pilots.
“The Pocklington-based club is known for its success. This year, club pilots have competed at the European championships and the junior world championships.”
