YORK’S Quentin McMaster was the winner of the fourth knockout qualifying stage in the York Darts Promotions Pro-am.

The Castle Howard Ox pub hosted the qualifier for the tournament, organised in association with Streamline Taxis of York and Red Dragon Darts, which culminates in a Grand Final featuring eight top BDO professional players in October.

McMaster beat Huddersfield’s Carl Baxter 2-1 in the best of three legs final.

The York player went 1-0 up with a 116 finish for an 18-dart leg.

Baxter closed on 106 for an 18-darter to level the score, but McMaster won a nervy third leg in 24 darts after both players missed doubles.

In the semi-finals, McMaster beat Stuart Limbert 2-1, while Baxter overcame Pip Hair by the same scoreline.

Fast legs from the earlier rounds came from Limbert (16 darts and 21), Hair and Russ King (both 18), Dave Kerr (19), Baxter (20) and Daz Blake (21) while Craig Wedge and Dave Kerr fired in two 180s each and Nick Harteveld got one.

McMaster now joins Steve Wade, Colin Hendry and Steve Rice as qualifiers for the Grand Final, which will feature pros Stephen Bunting, Darryl Fitton, James Wilson, Tony O’Shea, Gary Robson, Martin Atkins, Robbie Green and Glen Durrant.

The Grand Final will be held at Huntington WMC on Wednesday, October 9.

Entry to the Grand Finals is by ticket only. Tickets are avaliable by phoning Neil Hart on 07921 128063 or can be purchased at any of the York Darts Promotions events to be held in the run-up to the finals.

The last four qualifying knockouts – all being played on Wednesday nights – are at The Green Tree in Beckfield Lane on July 31, Severus WMC in Milner Street on August 14, The Punch Bowl in Lowther Street on August 28 and The Ainsty in Boroughbridge Road on September 4.
