ACOMB are fifth in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket Legaue premier division after a superb seven-wicket win over Studley Royal.

The Royals, who were flying high in second place, were only able to make 94-6 batting first at Acomb.

Dave Sykes, the leading premier division wicket-taker, claimed 3-16 in a miserly nine overs.

Joe Dale was even more economical, giving away only 11 runs in his ten-over spell.

After the break, Andy Tute made 27 and Matt Dale 31, before Joe Burton’s unbeaten 31 completed the win.

A fine ninth-wicket stand of 64 between Josh Cruise, who made 53, and Gary Moore rescued Selby from a deep hole at 80-8 and set up an 11-run win at Sewerby.

James Wheeler added support with 25, but Selby were only able to post a modest 145 as Ady Long took 4-38 and Ben Dobson 3-37.

In reply, Rick Robinson hit 37 and Chris Chapman 27, but Selby skipper Gareth Roberts took 4-36 and Tom Collins 3-19 as Sewerby were 134 all out.

Woodhouse Grange extended their lead at the top when they beat York by two wickets in a tense encounter at Sutton-on-Derwent.

Marcus Wood (34) and Mike Mortimer (34) helped York to 57-0, but Nick Hadfield wrecked the innings with five wickets in only 16 balls. He had final figures of 5-18 in 15 overs as York were all out for 125.

Andrew Bilton’s 36 was then sufficient to propel them to a winning 126-8.

Clifton Alliance’s batsmen hit form after a lean spell, racking up 251-5 against Beverley Town, thanks to a stand of 172 between Scott Hopkinson, who was unbeaten with 100, and John Gilham, who made 68.

Beverley claimed a draw at 81-8 as Alex Renton took 3-15. Top scorer was Ian Gillyon with 28.

Stamford Bridge moved ahead of their hosts when they won by three wickets at Dunnington.

Kev Bradley made 74 and Josh Barrett 34 in a Dunnington total of 137 as Ollie Pimlott took 4-36 and Kev Murphy 3-9.

Murphy hit a valuable 36 not out and skipper Matt Beckett made 52 as they eased home despite Adam Iyer’s 3-28 and Jack Bolam’s 3-19.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge moved into second despite their game at Easingwold being abandoned.

Stephen Piercy made 68 and Kyle Waite 62 as Easingwold reached 160-3 before the rains came.

• League officials have paid tribute to former Stillington player Norman Morse, who has died.

Morse, of Sheriff Hutton, was a leading player when Stillington were a strong first division side.

He also represented the league on a number of occasions in Inter-League matches and also had a spell with York.
