10:16am Wednesday 20th March 2013 in Sport
FULFORD’S Tim Lister added the Quickslide Scruton Cup to his impressive list of York Conservative Club snooker and billiards titles with a 3-0 win over Malton’s Lee Taylor.
Lister’s victory over the defending champion in the final at Heworth came on top of a trophy haul since 2008 that also includes the Hair Flicks Hylton Foster Billiards Knockout (2009, 2011), the snooker Player of the Year award (2010), the Fosters Challenge Snooker Knockout (2011, 2012) and the Dave Burdett Snooker Pairs (2010).
Lister took the first frame 77-16 after an ambitious pot on a red led to a 57 break, which bettered the previous highest in the competition, Taylor’s 51 in the semi-finals.
Taylor made a 23 break in the second frame, but Lister responded to take it 51-32 for a 2-0 lead.
A 76 clearance from Lister, a magnificent display of potting and position play, earned him a 91-21 win in the third frame and a 3-0 victory.
The break also secured the tournament’s highest break award.
The match was refereed by Richard Lillie and the cup and awards were presented by Paul Davison on behalf of sponsor Adrian Barraclough.
Heworth are champions-elect in the York Conservative Clubs’ Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League despite a 4-3 defeat to Bootham.
Heworth, bidding for a fourth consecutive title, were 3-2 ahead but 27 points behind in the aggregate when Bootham’s Matt Dawson and Steve Cain levelled and took the aggregate with an 86-27 victory.
Bootham are second in the table, but Heworth are 13 points ahead with only one match remaining.
They were helped by a walkover in the last game as Fulford were a player short.
