York City striker Jamie Reed hopes for rescue and reprieve

STRIKER Jamie Reed is hoping his return to York City could see him reignite a partnership with Michael Rankine that showed promise when they played together in 2011.

Then, they scored eight goals between them during the 13 matches they were both on the pitch.

Currently Rankine has not netted for 32 League games and Reed is without a goal for 17 matches but the latter added: “I would hope we could do something similar to before.

“There was not much opportunity to get the partnership going on Saturday but a few games together would be nice.”

Reed admitted, however, that the team must perform better than they did against Port Vale as the fight to preserve the club’s League status intensifies over the final seven games.

“I think everyone associated with York City would say Saturday was unacceptable,” he confessed. “The conditions were not the best but we can’t make excuses.

“We have got to put performances in every game between now and the end of the season and then see where we end up.”

Despite a sorry run of 14 games without a victory that has left City just one point off the bottom of League Two, Reed also insisted the players are still confident of getting back to winning ways.

He said: “Everyone believes we can win games. We are a good enough set of lads.

“We have got the quality because you see it every day in training. We just need something to go for us even if it means a goal going off somebody’s backside.

“Once that happens, I am sure we will go on and finish the season stronger.”

City, now 19th, travel to face a Torquay team on Saturday currently one position behind them in the League Two standings.

The Gulls are also in desperate form, ahead of their home match with Chesterfield tonight, having not won in 11 matches and claimed victory just once in their last 18.

On City’s next challenge, Reed added: “They are on a similar sort of run to us so, hopefully, we will come out stronger on the day.”

already nervous ahead of this weekend, previous games have been important, but for me this is certainly a must-not-lose, but depending on other results it could well be a must-win.
for us this season there isn't a better opportunity, we're away from home, they are just as awful as we are, and hopefully we have Banj and TY back fit. there actually isn't a better fixture we could ask for this weekend to get us out of this slump.

A lot has happened in the two weeks I've been away. Here's hoping all posters can put their differences aside and focus on supporting City's survival. Plenty of time for bickering once the season finishes. I don't care how we do it as long as we do. If at all possible in these difficult financial times, please support them home and away, this can help to make a difference. COYR
