Tramways bag second place in York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League

TRAMWAYS secured second place in York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League division one with an 8-3 victory over visitors Magnet.

Captain Sue Lowery led the way with scores of 140, 125 and 123 as Tramways raced into a 3-0 lead before Wendy Shortle and Flossy Crompton narrowed the gap.

Jan Wilberham pulled one back, but Shortle teamed up with Sandra Bruce to make it 4-3 before Carole Layne and Ruth Norman sealed the win. Lowery and Judy Hall added to the club side’s tally.

Lions, who finished level on points with Tramways, lost out to visitors Cueball ‘A’, who recovered from 4-2 down to win the remaining games, Barbara Russell and Chris Hayward snatching victory.

That meant Lions finished with ten wins to Tramways’ 11.

Slipper’s Karen Smith and Anita Adams sealed match points against visitors Walnut Tree.

Bootham Club were lucky to hold onto top spot in division two after losing out at Severus ‘A’.

There was top scoring from the club’s Julia Hagyard (125, 100) and Karen Johnson (120), but Severus’ finishing secured them an 8-3 win.

Severus ‘B’ were thwarted in their attempt to wrestle second place from Edinburgh, who did not have a match in the final week.

They fell one point short as Carol McKellar, Dawn Barker and Sandra Pallister gained Burton WMC three points.

Severus cleaned up in the pairs for an 8-3 result.

Acomb ‘A’ had a clean sweep in the pairs for a 9-2 win against visitors Turpin.

Clifton put in a good all round performance as Acomb ‘B’ could only manage two points.

The division three title was won by Shoulder ‘A’, who won 5-1 in the play-off match against Jubilee.

Debbie Witts, Christina Waddington and Janet Nelson set Leeman on the road to victory before Tracey Scurr and Maggie Bedingham replied for Shepherd ‘A’.

Margaret Yeomans restored the lead before Yeomans and Witts (138) sealed victory.

Woolpack’s Sharon Nelson top-scored as they entered the pairs 4-2 up on visitors Shoulder ‘B’, whose Josie Dowson and Joyce Kane made it 4-3. Liz Jackson and Sharon Lyons secured victory for Pack.

• A new fixture list will be sent out to captains as three new teams have joined the league for next season.

• Semi-finals night is at Tramways WMC tonight, at 8pm.
