Selby Town move off the bottom of division one
10:46am Monday 18th March 2013 in Sport
RESURGENT Selby Town moved off the bottom of Northern Counties East League division one with a 5-2 victory at Eccleshill United.
The Robins looked down and out at the foot of the table when Ian Dring took over as manager in late November.
However, the Flaxley Road club have won five of their last seven games under Dring’s stewardship to move up to 20th place.
Tom Owen and Jack Wooley both scored twice and Luke Hall also netted for the Robins.
Owen gave the visitors the perfect start with a goal on two minutes and, despite a 19th-minute leveller from Jackson Patillo, Hall’s 30th-minute effort made it 2-1 at the break.
Marcus Edwards produced a second Eccleshill equaliser two minutes after half-time, but Owen edged Selby in front on 51 minutes and Wooley made sure of the points with a 62nd-minute strike and a 79th-minute penalty.
Knaresborough Town’s promotion challenge faltered as the third-placed club lost 3-1 at home to Pontefract Collieries. Steve Bromley scored for Town in the first half.
A Liam Salt hat-trick fired Pickering Town to a 3-1 victory at home to Barton Town Old Boys in the premier division.
The Pikes top scorer netted in the 21st, 30th and 60th minutes to take his tally to 30 for the campaign. Ryan Cooper bagged Barton’s goal on 59 minutes.
Tadcaster Albion drew 1-1 at home to Thackley, with Kyle Hawthorne netting an 84th-minute equaliser for the Brewers.
Scarborough Athletic kept up their title push with a 4-2 win at Parkgate with goals from Ryan Blott, Jimmy Beadle (2) and Bryan Hughes.
Second half goals from Dominic Knowles and Adam Bolder eased Harrogate Town to a 2-0 win at Corby in Blue Square Bet North.
Knowles struck in the 51st minute and Bolder added the second in the 69th minute for Town, who are sixth in the table.
Harrogate Railway Athletic were beaten 2-0 at Station View by fifth-placed Curzon Ashton in Evo-Stik League division one north.
