York City sign midfielder Josh Carson on loan

YORK City have signed attacking midfielder Josh Carson on loan from Ipswich Town.

The 19-year-old, who can play in midfield or wide on the left or right, is a Northern Ireland international and becomes manager Nigel Worthington's second signing for the Minstermen.

Is it just me - but isn't it someone who knows where the onion bag is, what we need ?.The way we play now seems to bypass the midfield.

Maybe the manager is only using that tactic because he doesn't feel that the present attacking midfielders have the strength or presence to be effective in that area.
Potts and McLaughlin have had their moments but have not been consistent. McReady is certainly one for the future but NW has stated that he doesn't think the present situation is right for young players (and the other two aren't exactly veterans).
Oh, I've just noticed that the new bloke is 19, so forget what I just said - or maybe he's just very good!
It will be interesting to see the tactics on Saturday.

If I look into my crystal ball I think I can see it, wait a minute, yes - its hoofball. Route one, which is fine if we explain to the front 2 how it works. Fingers crossed time

NW is quickly learning about what is needed and I'm sure he has a few irons in the fire! You have to start somewhere. Quality from the wings is needed and this appears to be a good signing. Keep the faith!

Spot on, it's all about survival now. If goofball wins games, then for the rest of this season that would be good enough. The gaffer needs to protect our league status at all costs and sort the squad out proper in the summer months.

I take it you didn't go on Tuesday night? I agree it was more route one than we are used to witnessing but the creation in midfield was non existent. The wing play and crossing was abysmal. Even one of our corners was straight out of the John Smiths Sunday morning league and that’s an insult to them.

Intel - I was there Tuesday - midfield creation?. We had no midfield to speak of. Booting it out of defence at every opportunity. Which is fine if you have the players to make that work. We clearly didn't, hence one shot on target in the 89th minute

How about we just support Worthington and wait until the end of the season and see if he keeps us up ?
I could not care less how we play until then if we are still a league club. The Mills style was was not working and its time to move on and not put extra pressure on a man that could be the difference between still having a football club long term or not.

You're clearly right, in that nobody will mind if he keeps us up playing ugly football. And you're right that he needs support. But he's managed us for 2 matches now, and both of them have been very poor, negative displays by almost all accounts. Normally, you wouldn't be able to judge anything from 2 games, but he only has 10 games to see us to safety - that's 1/5th of the games played, and no real improvement. He has a tough task, but he knew that when he took the job - in my opinion, tuesday (and last saturday) were simply not good enough and the buck stops with him now. It's true that Mills' passing football wasn't working, and hadn't been for a while - but do you really see the brand of long-ball football that NW has played so far working either? Hardly any of our players are suited to that style of play. As always, I am absolutely prepared to retract these criticisms if NW makes positive changes - I hope he does, and he certainly has enough experience to make me think he will. But from what we've seen so far, I can't help but agree with CaptainCreosote.

I do feel slightly for Blair and Chambers though if he has come in to play out wide, there are guys in the squad who are more deserving of being replaced (naming no names SCOTT KERR)

How many points did we drop making a ****-up trying to pass the ball out of defence? I can remember Kerr getting caught a couple of times, plus mistakes by Smith and Carlisle (??). Personally watching the defence put in a proper clearance is an improvement.

True, but it doesn't need to be one way or the other - there are times the defenders should be putting their foot through the ball to make a clearence, and times when they should control the ball, look up and play an intelligent pass. Too much of the latter from Mills, too much of the former (so far) from NW.

Don't worry, the wins are coming. We now have a manager with lots of league experience (and International) who will steer us in the right direction. I predict that we'll win at least 3 of the remaining games. Still think that he'll need another game to get to grips with the squad.

Still working with the same players though. He needs more than one week and to bring in two or three of his own to hopefully make a difference. It might still not work out but the decision has been made and we have to hope he turns it around.

I think openallhours has been wronged by mills in a former life.he has wanted him sacked from the first day of the season.I truly believe we would of stayed up under mills and would of won on tuesday night playing football not hoofball. Good Players dont become bad players over night nor do managers,we just needed a bit of luck and one win to give them that confidence. We have made a big mistake sacking mills and i for one wont be paying to watch that awful style of play NW is ordering good footballers to play. We have created chances in every game this season and not deserved to lose in 90% of the them playing football.

Let us hope Carson starts at full speed because we are running out of games, but from the team I watched on Tuesday night, nobody will be on the same wavelength. They looked like a team of aliens, just arrived from planet Zog, and had a quick briefing on this game called 'football', and then proceeded to give it a go. How did these players ever get the attention of professional coaches, or PT Instructers at school, they must have performed better than they are now, they have no idea, they actually look about for advice, not knowing whether to kick long or pass and dribble. They are allowed to do both. Where is Coulson? a grand little player, and Potts, we need them both.

To achieve objectives whether it be promotion or survival you have to do well against the teams around you. Looking at the 8 teams in a relegation battle against York, Mills team gained 16 points from 10 games. So far Worthington's team has secured 1 point in 2 games. There are four more such games to come. One would project 6 to 7 points from a Mills team. If they don't achieve that, Worthington will take them down. Let's hope he has a cunning plan. And good luck to Josh Carson in being part of that!

A mixture of the squad not being good enough and the fact the way we were playing was just too easy for the opposition. Knocking the ball around in midfield looked good but we just played at to slow a pace and nine times out if ten the final ball never came into the box, even when it did everyone in the opposition team had time to get back and defend. Worthington is trying to get us to play at a higher tempo and get more attempts on goal. We got two at Wimbledon which was an improvement but the Rochdale game sounded dire.

Both games under NW have been dire any fan who witnessed these games has a right to say so without being called "weird".

Moving on, this signing hopefully signals an improvement in the quality of signings that NW is able to bring to the club. We rarely put any decent balls in from the left and this should give competition on the right between Blair, Chambers and Coulson on return.

Looks a good signinng on paper, let's see how he does on grass this Saturday.
