1:23pm Wednesday 13th March 2013 in Sport
YORK City Knights have been drawn away to St Helens amateur club Blackbrook in the third round of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup.
Blackbrook, newcomers to the National Conference League third division after years of success in North West leagues, shocked NCL division one side Oulton Raiders 20-16 after extra time in their second round tie on Saturday. Two of their players, Greg Hale and Ste Marsh, have recently been chosen for the BARLA Great Britain train-on squad, while they had four representatives in the recent Lancashire squad for the BARLA Tri-Counties series.
Championship clubs like the Knights join the Challenge Cup at this third-round stage, along with two French teams, Toulouse and Carcassonne.
Super League clubs enter in round four.
The draw, made in Oxford by actor Kevin Whately and Bruce Ray, the communications director of Carlsberg UK, was believed to be the first in any major sporting competition to be broadcast live on Twitter.
The full draw is: Featherstone v Thatto Heath, Blackbrook v York City Knights, West Hull v North Wales Crusaders, Dewsbury v Myton Warriors, Sheffield v Leigh East, South Wales Scorpions v Doncaster, Workington v Carcassonne, Halifax v Oxford Cavaliers, Batley v Gateshead, Skirlaugh v Gloucestershire All Golds, Ince Rose Bridge v Hemel Stags, Swinton v Toulouse, Siddal v Keighley, Rochdale v Hunslet Old Boys, Leigh v East Leeds, Whitehaven v London Skolars, Hunslet v Oldham, Barrow v Leigh Miners.
Ties are to be played over the weekend of April 6-7.
