Confidence the key for York City home joy declares manager Nigel Worthington
12:44pm Monday 11th March 2013 in Sport
By Steve Carroll, Sports reporter
CONFIDENCE and performance will turn around York City’s disappointing home form, says manager Nigel Worthington.
The former Norwich and Northern Ireland boss takes charge of his first game at Bootham Crescent against Rochdale tomorrow night (kick off 7.45pm) bidding to immediately improve on a record of just four home League Two victories all season.
“It’s about confidence,” Worthington said. “I have been here a week and the players around the place are smiling and working hard. There is good spirit there. All the things are right, I think it’s just about holding the nerve on the big stage and going and performing.
“They did that on Saturday away from home, now go and do it again. They have got it all to play for. We know the situation we are in but go and enjoy your football and I always say that to players.”
On what is needed to start notching victories, Worthington added: “There’s little bits and pieces we need to keep working on and be aware of. The awareness to see things and try and stop them before they happen.
“There were two very good goals (at AFC Wimbledon in a 3-2 defeat) but I just feel the three goals we conceded were soft goals and that’s something that we need to try and tighten up on a little bit to make things better.
“There’s two things and they are straightforward. They are not difficult. You have got to try and keep clean sheets to give yourself a chance of winning games and, after that, you’ve got to score goals.
“It’s something we keep mentioning and trying to imprint in the players’ heads. If we individually do our jobs well and then put it all together as a team then that can become a strength for us.”

If we can't get 9 points there, then we probably don't deserve to be in the division.

Never mind the home form Press, I don't want a Kit Kat chunky and don't come here for Premier League News videos!!
Anyway a win is a MUST tomorrow. If we don't win I will be even more worried than I am now... didn't go on Saturday but could probably do with keeping Fyfield away from the team. Parslow seemed to be doing a decent job at left back. What's wrong with Oyebanjo?

I'm hoping this will bring 3 points on Tuesday and the start of a mini recovery.
Need to get behind the players on Tuesday.

There's no space for doom or gloom now as every game is massive and I'm sure that the Longhurst will be the 12th man this week. The road to recovery starts tomorrow night with 3 points.

If you want I can trawl back through your posts and find examples of uncontructive attacks made on the players and management (not to mention other fans), which demonstrate how much and how often you undermine this team. A 'proper supporter' was getting behind the club the whole time, not just when his petty, childish vendetta against Gary Mills was satisfied.

did not assemble a squad capable of holding their own in this division-at best
decent conference standard.get over it. all we can do now is get behind N.Worthington and the team. However IF
we do go down I think it will be the end for the club.

Reedy to come on in the 2nd half an poach a couple of goals, big men up front thats what weve been wanting, TY or Parslow can fill in at the back, NW is right just enjoy the football we need the lads to relax and not let the pressure add to more mistakes.
Would like to see McReady, Platt and Coulson play a part before the end of the season.

It could work in a 4-3-3, but I think starting him at centre half and bringing him up for set plays would be a wiser option, and if plan A doesn't work throw him up front last 20 as a plan B if we go route one (assuming we don't go route one from the start)
We could do worse than playing Chris Smith up front tomorrow. He's prepared to put his head where others daren't and he looks to attack the ball where others wait for it to find them. Play Parslow centre half with O'Connell unless McGurk is fit in which case he must come in and then play O'Connell at left back and Banjo at right back. Smith and Rankine the 2 up front, Blair and Chambers on the wings and McGrath with McReady (if available) in centre midfield.
Be nice to see Ranks and Walker up front together personally as that's what I think Walker has needed all season, yet since Ranks has been back I don't think they've played together once, but I may well be wrong.

We didn't fold 8 years ago & we won't no matter what happens.
Scarborough/Chester/
Halifax/Boston & Darlington all still in existence.
Fact is we can only support the lads to the hilt. Players retire the club will go on f

If only we'd been aware of that earlier in the season, things could have been so different. I hope his team talks are little more technical.
Fingers crossed but I'm not optimistic given the evidence on Saturday.

Did our new manager actually say there are only two things needed.. keeping a clean sheet and scoring goals?

And please give us all some credit, anyone who reads your nonsense knows that you were just overjoyed that Mills failed in the end because you thought it 'proved you right' - gloating has always been more important to you than the success of this club. Do you even go to matches? I seem to recall reading something on here suggesting you didn't, which would make an awful lot of sense.
