THE premier division title hopes of Wigginton Grasshoppers took another knock as they lost 3-0 at home to Dringhouses in the York York Minster Engineering Football League.

Wiggy failed to score for the third successive home game and they are five points behind leaders Dunnington having played two games more.

Craig McShane headed Dringhouses in front and, before the break, Dave Watson doubled their lead. A Javier Shepherd header confirmed a third consecutive home defeat for the Grasshoppers.

Old Malton St Mary’s chalked up a fifth straight win in style as they hammered Easingwold 11-0, a tally which included five goals from Dean Nuttall.

There was also a hat-trick from Jon Newton, two for Darren Dunning and one by Dave Wilson, who started the rout.

The Poppleton revival continued as they recorded back-to-back away victories with a 5-0 win at Rowntrees.

Nick Moss set them on their way with the opener after 18 minutes before Joe Dale, scoring for the sixth game on the trot, scored twice in each half.

Two goals from Dave Heron helped Riccall beat Huntington for the first time in five attempts.

Gary Collier and Danny Rodwell completed Riccall’s 4-0 success.

Terrington Glory have failed to collect a point on their travels since their 15-match unbeaten away run ended three games ago.

The latest defeat was at the hands of York RI, who won 6-4.

Lee Powell’s opener for RI was cancelled out by Ben Richardson before Carl Shepherd restored the home side’s lead before the break. In the second period, Nick Hartley and a Craig Atkinson penalty extended RI’s lead. The visitors responded through Andrew Park, but Powell completed his hat-trick.

Dave Bradshaw and Chris Leadham got late goals for Glory.

Selby RSSC claimed their first home win of the season, beating Hamilton Panthers 5-2. Louis Blackwell (3), Matty Muscroft and Dave Hullah made it 5-0 before Panthers replied through Jonathon Ellis and Danny Farthing.

 

DIVISION one leaders Aviva came from behind to beat hosts Amotherby & Swinton 3-1 in the York Minster Engineering Football League.

Amotherby & Swinton’s George Moore scored for the fourth game on the bounce to put his side in front, but on the stroke of half-time Carl Barbero levelled.

Warren Lowe headed the visitors in front and Mark Benton wrapped up the scoring.

White Horse suffered a second successive defeat as they went down 1-0 at St Clement’s, Scott Nicholas scoring.

The Church Fenton side need maximum points from their games in hand to mount a challenge for promotion.

 

SPORTING Knavesmire stretched their unbeaten home run to five games as they beat Civil Service 4-2 in York Minster Engineering League division three.

Andrew Simpson, with his fifth goal in as many games, put Sporting in front and George Wilson doubled their lead.

The visitors responded with goals from Chris Smith and Glen Thompson, but late strikes by Ali Brown and Tom Wilson sealed it.

Crayke, who recently bagged their first away win in 14 games, are celebrating a first home victory in 12 after coming from a goal down to beat Ouseburn 2-1.

Mark Aconley turned the ball into his own net to put the visitors in front, but sub Matty Dixon equalised and the win was confirmed five minutes from time by James Robinson. Steve Gagen hit a hat-trick for Rufforth but three late goals condemned them to a 5-4 defeat against Selby Olympia. James Everhard hit Rufforth’s other goal. Division four leaders York Acorn confirmed promotion to division three with a 3-1 win over Selby Town Reserves. Lee Jacobs and Leigh Dutton (2) were the scorers, with Kyle Wilks replying.

 

F1 RACING needed penalties to edge past Barmby Moor in the Junior League Cup.

F1 twice led, through George Trifan’s penalty and Neil Yeowart’s strike, but Moor levelled twice, with the second coming in the final minute. Racing won the shoot-out 4-3.

Cliffe, fielding four 16-year-olds, earned a second round tie with Crayke thanks to a 2-0 win over Elvington Harriers. Kev Taylor and Chris Jackson, from the penalty spot, were the scorers.

Fulford United beat Melbourne 2-0 with goals from Jordan Siswick and Sam Harrison.

Tadcaster Magnets trounced Thorpe United 4-0 thanks to John Crawley, Andy Kitchen, Phil Smith and Ben Wilson.
