Clarke applauds Worthington’s Bootham Crescent arrival

FORMER Bootham Crescent centre-back Clarke Carlisle reckons York City fans should be delighted with the appointment of Nigel Worthington as their new manager.

Worthington gave current PFA chairman Carlisle his senior debut back in 1997 when the pair were both at Blackpool and the 33-year-old defender, who now plies his trade at Northampton, speaks highly of his old mentor.

He said: “Nigel’s CV goes before him both as an international manager and in the Premier League so the supporters of York City have got to be delighted to have a manager of that calibre at their club.”

AFC Wimbledon, who host City today, have signed ’keeper John Sullivan on loan from Charlton after Doncaster recalled veteran Neil Sullivan.
