Helen Walker reached a quarter-final in a national competition for the second time in a week when she and fellow York Indoor Bowls Club player Zoe Eagles appeared in the pairs at Melton IBC.

They came through their first game against The Parks (North Shields) with ease beating them 28-3 with the game being conceded with five ends to play.

Their second tie was against Dorchester. They led 8-3 after five ends then 14-6 after ten, to tee them up for an impressive 25-14 victory.

Pre-tournament favourites City of Ely were their quarter-final opponents, who set the early pace to be 7-3 up after five ends.

But Walker and Eagles pulled the score back to 11-9 by the 11th end.

However, City of Ely, who were to finish eventual runners-up, rallied to win 24-12.

York’s Emily Clarke reached the Yorkshire Ladies singles final after beating Hornsea’s Lydia Cutmore.

She will now play Selby’s Holly Arundel in the final at Redcar IBC on April 7.
