11:53am Thursday 7th March 2013 in Sport
Despite losing 75-70 to Hornsea in the Hebden League, New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club had already done enough in their previous games to finish third and guarantee a place in the end of season Challenge Cup.
At home, Gordon Storey’s side scored 19 unanswered shots between the sixth and 16th ends to go from 6-3 down to lead 22-6 on their way to a 23-12 victory.
The team led by Brian Birch was involved in a close game with the score standing at 11-9 against them with six ends to play.
However, they could not win another end and lost the game 21-9.
Away, Graham Bell’s team picked up ten shots between the 11th and 14th ends to go from 10-7 to 20-11 to underpin a 24-19 win.
Gary Jones’ side were only 18-14 down with three ends to play but lost 25-14.
New Earswick complete their league fixtures on Saturday when they play all four rinks at title-holders Featherstone.
Featherstone, North Cave and Selby will join New Earswick in the Challenge Cup on Sunday, March 24.
