Knights boss praises George Elliott’s quality return

BOSS Gary Thornton has given George Elliott a vote of confidence following the winger’s return to the York City Knights side.

Elliott, last season’s second-top try scorer at Huntington Stadium, has had to wait to make his 2013 bow in the Kingstone Press Championship.

It finally came at Sheffield on Friday night and, although the team lost, Elliott scored a fine try and Thornton has suggested the 21-year-old did enough to keep his place for Sunday’s visit of Workington.

“I thought he did well, with some very good stuff,” said the head coach.

“He got caught out a couple of times from kicks, but we didn’t give him a lot of protection and we were slow at shutting down the kicking options.

“He diffused a couple of bombs and took his try excellently well.

“I put a bit of pressure on him, saying, ‘Go out there and make sure I can’t drop you’, and I think he did that.”
